"I need my Santa Bag!"

"I need my Santa Bag!" Is the insistent cry we hear from our sweet Cat on various occasions- waking up, going out, sitting in her car seat. She carries this bag EVERYWHERE. What is it, you ask? Well, it's a rather simple craft red felt bag with a handle and the face of Santa. It's just the size for a little girl's purse.

Her teacher, Mrs. Christina gave them as Christmas gifts to Cat and her classmates at St. Rose. The Santa Bag has been our little girl's one indispensable fashion accessory. She has ignored many other purses, including a yellow zipper purse from Mexico (thanks Grannie) and other little bags.

It is Santa Bag and nothing else.  When missing, Brian and I recognize that one of us needs to locate the bag before morning or else morning will not be so pleasant.  Since it is carried exclusively and everywhere, SB has seen some wear and tear. All manner of objects, including pencils, expensive jewelry and watches, old credit cards, store receipts, an unwrapped, half eaten granola bar, and Grannie's iPhone have resided therein.  In fact, It could be condemned by the Board of Health because of the bits and pieces of food items of undetermined age it carries.

My mom tells me that Cat's fascination with her SB reminds her of my own bag obsessions when I was just two years old.

Easter Early 80s

I suppose it serves a function in the growth cycle- acting as a security blanket and giving her a chance to roll model. But I think Cat just thinks of it as a valuable companion to be with her almost everywhere.

Mardi Gras 2014

We had a fun visit to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We generally go the first weekend as it is less crowded and easier with young kids, but this year we went down for the main weekend.  We lucked out and got beautiful weather with the exception of our drive down, which was fine, because the kids are always better behaved at the onset of a trip!

I had a fun time celebrating Brian's grandmother's 88th birthday. We all met at Commander's Palace and ate delicious food and shared many stories.  Each year in life is a blessing and I can only hope to be as energetic and spirited as Mi Mi Kuhn is at 88 years old.

As for actually parading, we only made it to the day parades on Saturday.  Logan and Catherine were both a bit afraid of the loud noises but warmed up to them quicker this year than in prior years.  We watch the parades from my sister in law's family house and it is a perfect spot!  Logan adores his partner in crime and cousin, Michael.  Catherine had so much fun she literally fell asleep outside in the middle of the parade.

A toilet plunger and a sword were among the top catches for the day

LOVE this photo

She is completely passed out

Mardi Gras 2014 is in the books, now moving on to Lent.
