We just wrapped up our first Mardi Gras! I drove in with both kids. Brian couldn’t take off work, so my mom
filled in and we arrived early Friday morning.
Logan and Catherine were absolute angels in the car, no crying at
all. They enjoyed our stop at Chick-fil-A
and the play area there.
We were planning to go the Saturday morning parades, but
major thunderstorms put the damper on that (pun intended.) So we set out on Sunday, only to be met by
monumental crowds, which made wheeling the double stroller (never again) quite a challenge.
When we reached the Ramoni’s house, Logan and Grannie were
ready for a snack. Popeyes seems to
taste even better at a parade!
Michael was a great host, and already being a parade
veteran, helped show us the ropes.
He was also a natural on the ladder, while Logan was a
little unsure. Uncle Donald was a great
help with both boys.
Catherine wasn’t quite as impressed with all the goings-on,
and took the opportunity to nap. It took
me quite a while to get her settled, and then like clockwork, Logan smote her
with a plastic sword from the Tucks parade!
Needless to say, her mood changed pretty rapidly after this picture was
taken.
Mardi Gras day Catherine and I stayed home, and Logan went
to Rex with his grandparents. Logan
enjoyed himself but sometimes found the loud noises a bit much. Since he got his ear tubes, he’s much more
sensitive to sound. The blare of the
truck horns was mitigated by the headphones Aunt Clare lent him, and he took a
nap on the walk back to the car.
Other highlights of the weekend included dinner with friends
sans kids, bottles, diapers, and sippy cups.
I also enjoyed fresh seafood, po-boys, and naps. And the visit was capped by the ultimate
Mardi Gras treat, the best King Cake of
them all!
You are awesome to travel by yourself. I haven't slept anywhere but my house since August 2010 except to birth Grace. I am glad you had a nice trip.
